Hi, my name is Kristina, and I’m a solo traveler and kitesurfer from Europe! The first time I arrived in Goa feels like a lifetime ago, and while a lot has changed over the years, it remains one of the best places to stay in India for solo female travelers. The energy, the people, and the beaches make it an adventure worth taking!

During one of my first trips, I discovered The Funky Monkey Hostel in Anjuna, and since then, it has become my go-to hostel in Goa. Why? First, safety. As a solo female traveler, feeling comfortable and secure is a priority, and at Funky Monkey, that feeling comes instantly. The staff genuinely cares, the crowd is friendly, and the whole vibe is welcoming.

Second, the location. The hostel is just a short walk from the beach and surrounded by amazing spots to explore. Third, the people. The Funky Monkey crew makes every stay special, whether it's through their helpfulness, fun events, or just the relaxed and lovely atmosphere. If you’re looking for the best hostel in Goa, this is where you’ll want to be!

For my current India trip, I’m planning a three-month journey across Goa and Kerala—on my bike! A lot of fellow travelers at the hostel asked me how I pack for such a long trip, so here are my top packing tips for exploring India smoothly and stress-free.

Packing Tips for Solo Travelers in India

1. Choose a Backpack Over a Trolley

A backpack is your best friend. Unlike a trolley, it’s easy to carry on a bike, hop onto a motor taxi, or take with you on unexpected hikes. Plus, it keeps your hands free for better mobility. Go for a sturdy, comfortable backpack with good weight distribution and enough space to fit essentials without overloading yourself!

2. Keep It Light—Minimalism Wins!

You really don’t need much! Many essentials can be found locally, and lighter packing means more freedom. Stick to breathable clothes, one pair of comfortable shoes, and a sarong (trust me, it’s useful for everything—beach, cover-up, pillow, etc.).

3. Bring a Portable Power Bank

Charging points can be unreliable, especially if you're taking long bus or train rides. A small but efficient power bank ensures your phone is always ready for navigation, bookings, and that perfect beach sunset shot ;)

4. Pack Essential Medications

Eye drops, any personal medication, and prescription meds should always be in your bag. It’s better to have them with you than to search for a pharmacy in a new town. A small first-aid kit with band-aids and electrolytes is always useful!

5. Keep Important Documents Safe

Your passport, international driver’s license, and other valuables should be in a waterproof neck pouch. It keeps them protected from unexpected rain and makes sure they’re always within reach when needed.

Exploring Goa and beyond as a solo traveler is one of the most exciting adventures you can have, especially when you stay at places like Funky Monkey Goa, where you instantly feel part of a community. Whether it’s your first trip or your tenth, traveling light, smart, and safe makes all the difference!

So, are you ready to pack your bags and experience the best of India? See you on the road—or maybe at Funky Monkey Hostel! 🚀
