Welcome to the ultimate guide on backpacker #HostelEtiquette, also known as your Hostel Survival Guide! Our hostel team has compiled a list of essential "dos" and "don'ts" we've observed over the years. Whether you're a seasoned traveler or new to backpacking, these tips will help you enjoy your stay, make more friends, and keep the hostel vibe awesome!
1. Don't Scream in the Middle of the Night
Respect quiet hours. While hostels are social places, everyone needs their sleep. Quiet hours typically run from 11 PM to 8 AM. Please use a soft voice and avoid loud activities during these times - other travellers need some sleep!
2. Clean Up, Buttercup
Treat common areas and dorms with care. Clean up after yourself in shared spaces like the Chillout Area, dorms and washrooms. A tidy Hostel makes everyone's stay more enjoyable. Let's show our cleaning staff some love by keeping things tidy—after all, no one likes a messy backpacker!
3. Lights Out, Legends!
Dorms are shared spaces. Be considerate of your roommates by using a flashlight or phone light at night, packing quietly in the mornings, and keep the lights (and noise) down when others want to sleep. Tho we recommend Earplugs & sleep mask if you are planning on Hostel hopping around Goa!
4. Make Mates, Not Memes!
HostelLife is all about meeting new people. Join hostel activities, start up conversations with fellow travellers and simply embrace the hostel vibe. Disconnect from your phone and laptop, say "hello"—you never know who you might meet!
5. Rule Up or Ship Out!
Every hostel has its own set of rules. Familiarize yourself with them to ensure a smooth stay for yourself and others. If you're unsure about anything, don't hesitate to ask the Hostel Team!
6. Clean & Green!
At The Funky Monkey Hostel Goa, we welcome over thousands of travelers every year. Imagine the impact if each guest did one eco-friendly thing during their stay! Opt for eco-friendly travel options like trains and bikes, conserve water and energy, and help keep nature clean by recycling and disposing of trash. Join for beach cleanups and other initiatives to give back to the community and environment! #EcoFriendlyTravel
7. Embrace the Local Culture
Be a traveller, not a tourist! Embrace the 'susegad'' lifestyle—relaxed and deeply connected to nature. Don't be shy to explore the local culture, try some authentic Goan food and discover some of the hidden gems away from the touristy spots.
8. Respect, Not Trouble!
Despite facing challenges from growing tourism, Goa remains a very tolerant and welcoming destination. Respect local laws, culture, and traditions and you will end up having a great time in Goa!
9. Travelers, Not Hoteliers!
At Funky Monkey Hostel, we're passionate travelers ourselves. As a Team our job here is to create a welcoming atmosphere for fellow travelers, ensuring a smooth check-in and a positive vibe. Please understand that we keep things simple- we're not a hotel or resort! Treat us with kindness and respect, just as you would like in return. Remember, good vibes are contagious!
10. Enjoy!
Lastly, make the most of your backpacking adventure in Goa! Whether you're wandering through bustling markets, chilling on Anjuna beach, catching epic sunsets, or swapping stories over chai with new friends—enjoy every bit of it! Embrace the adventure, keep that good vibe going, and create memories that'll stick with you forever! #BackpackingLife
